Bio:

Jennifer Summer is a movement-based artist located on the unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and Sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations, commonly referred to as Vancouver, British Columbia. She aims to create space for cultural critique by exploring themes of identity and intersectionality.

She began ballet and Chinese dance at three years old and is grateful to have trained and performed across North America and Asia. She obtained Highest Overall Score at the North American Chinese Dance Competition, performed for the governor general of Canada, and had her work featured on CBC Radio.

In addition to furthering her creative practice, she serves on the board of directors for Future Leisure, a not-for-profit performance organization, and the North Fraser Arts Association, dedicated to supporting inclusivity, education, and excellence in the arts.

She holds an undergraduate degree from Simon Fraser University and a law degree from the University of Alberta. She completed her article at a criminal defence firm and has been a member of the British Columbia Bar Association since 2015. Her background in law keeps her accountable to issues of hegemony and positionality that underlie her artistic endeavours. Jennifer Summer is completing her Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies at Athabasca University.
